Alumni & Brotherhood

Once a Knight, always a Knight. The bond of Sigma Nu does not end at graduation.

To believe in the Life of Love, To walk in the Way of Honor, To serve in the Light of Truth —
This is the Life, the Way, and the Light of Sigma Nu.
— The Creed of Sigma Nu

Alumni Engagement

A Brotherhood That Never Retires

The bond formed at 55 West Broadway does not have an expiration date. From the men who first walked through those arched doors in 1970 to the brothers initiated last semester, Zeta Sigma’s alumni network spans more than seventy years, multiple generations, and every corner of American professional life.

That network is not passive. In recent years, alumni engagement at Zeta Sigma has entered a new era, one defined by hands-on involvement, financial commitment, and a genuine partnership between the active chapter and those who came before. The results have been remarkable: chapter awards, a fully renovated house, and a chapter that has grown faster than any other in recent memory.

Order of Omega Greek Awards — 2024–25

At the annual Order of Omega Greek Awards Ceremony, the Zeta Sigma Chapter took home three awards in a single evening: A testament to what alumni engagement and active chapter dedication can produce together.

Alumni Spotlight

Rob Herb: Alumni Chapter Advisor of the Year

Rob Herb is the embodiment of what alumni engagement should look like. As Chapter Advisor, Rob has poured his time, expertise, and enthusiasm into the regrowth of the active chapter, joining brothers for LEAD days, spearheading the 55@55 initiative, and earning recognition at the national level with the Alumni Chapter Advisor of the Year Award from Sigma Nu Fraternity.

The 55@55 campaign: named for the chapter’s address at 55 West Broadway and the goal of engaging 55 alumni donors, represents a new model for how Zeta Sigma alumni can power the chapter forward. Rob’s tireless work on this initiative earned the chapter the Order of Omega award for Outstanding Alumni Engagement, one of the most meaningful recognitions a chapter can receive.

“All of his hard work and dedication has been instrumental to the growth and development of the chapter since he’s become more involved in his role. The active chapter is greatly appreciative of his contributions. This award is very well deserved.”

Living Tradition

The Pilgrimage to Lexington

Since the 1960s, one tradition has stood above all others as the defining Sigma Nu experience at Gettysburg: the pilgrimage to Lexington, Virginia. The journey to Sigma Nu’s national headquarters at the Virginia Military Institute is not simply a trip, it is a rite of passage that connects every generation of brothers to the fraternity’s founding story.

The pilgrimage has been revived for a new era. Each spring, the candidate class makes the journey alongside active brothers, and alumni are warmly invited to return. The tour of VMI and Sigma Nu headquarters, LEAD sessions, and initiation in the Alpha room are experiences that every brother carries with them for life. If you attended as a pledge yourself, you know what it means to stand in that room. Come back and see it again through the eyes of the next class.

Alumni interested in joining the spring pilgrimage to Lexington are encouraged to reach out through the chapter’s Facebook group or contact the Chapter Advisor. The journey is open to any brother who made the trip themselves and wishes to welcome the next class into the Legion of Honor.

Ways to Engage

There is no wrong way to re-engage with your brotherhood. Whether you can give an afternoon or a financial gift, whether you live five minutes from campus or five states away, Zeta Sigma has a place for you.

  • LEAD Days: Join the active chapter for leadership and operations workshops. Your experience matters to the brothers in the room.
  • The Lexington Pilgrimage: Return to VMI with the spring candidate class and reconnect with the founding story of Sigma Nu.
  • Alumni Crab Feast: An annual tradition that can bring generations of brothers together to the house.
  • 55@55: Support the chapter’s alumni giving campaign. Every gift, at any level, directly funds the chapter’s programs and facilities.
  • Mentorship: Connect with active brothers in your professional field. The chapter is always looking for alumni willing to offer career guidance, internship connections, and advice.
  • Facebook Alumni Group: Stay current with chapter news, events, and the lives of your brothers at facebook.com/groups/25046821326.
It has been a heritage rich in the traditions and ideals of Sigma Nu, one that will hopefully continue well into the next century.
